Village of New Lenox Safe Communities America, Older Adults Falls Prevention Task Group met May 15.

CALL TO ORDER
Laura Regis called the meeting to order at 1:30pm. This meeting was held via Zoom.
IN ATTENDANCE
The Older Adults Falls Prevention Task Group Members in attendance were Dan Martin / Village of New Lenox, Laura Regis, Darlene Purler, Linda Bunting, Diannaha Thompson / CNNSSA Meals on Wheels, Gloria Bodnar, Sarah Zayyad / Rush Physical Therapy, Colette Loecke, Dominic Ricobene / New Lenox Public Library, Amy Maher/ New Lenox Community Park District, Kathy Beaudry and Lori Gibson / Home for Life Advantage, Inc.
APPROVAL OF MARCH 13, 2024, MEETING MINUTES
The Minutes of the March 13, 2024 Task Group Meeting, which had been disseminated via email to Task Group Members, were discussed. Laura Regis noticed that Judy Butler’s name had been omitted from the Planning Committee for “One Fall Can Change It All”. That was amended. Darlene Purler made a motion to approve the amended minutes, Kathy Beaudry seconded. There was no further discussion. The motion carried and the minutes were approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Laura encouraged “Fit and Strong” coaches to remain after this meeting to view a refresher on “F&S” stretches and exercises. Another session will be offered to those unable to attend.
OLD BUSINESS
“Matter of Balance” Class #53
MOB Class #53 was held on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30am to 11:30am, in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall. The class started on Monday, April 1st and graduated 12 participants on Wednesday April 24th. The coaches for this class were Dan Martin, Judy Butler and Gloria Bodnar.
Attendees for the March 13, 2024, CPR Refresher Training were Laura Regis, Gloria Bodnar, Colette Loecke, Kathy Beaudry, Dominic Ricobene, Diannaha Thompson and Linda Bunting.
NEW BUSINESS
“Fit and Strong”
Spencer Campus has been secured for this 8-week program. The class will start on Monday, June 3, 2024 and end on Friday, July 26, 2024. The class will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30am to 11:00am.
The coaching schedule has been sent via email. There will NOT be a class on Wednesday, June 19th as it’s a school holiday and the school will be closed.
“Seniors with Sole”
This free walking program for Seniors with their own walking goals will start on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 and end on Thursday, July 25, 2024. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 9:30am in the New Lenox Commons. Mercy and Tom Nolan and Gloria Bodnar will lead the program this summer.
“One Fall Can Change It All”
The New Lenox VFW Hall has been reserved for this event on Wednesday, September 18, 2024,7:30am to 12:00pm. We are at capacity of vendors. Christine Ronna, singer/entertainer, will be singing a variety of Oldies and Motown Hits. Jameka Muhammad will present a program on stretching and common ailments for older adults. Dan Martin is seeking a speaker from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office to present a program on Elder Fraud. Diannaha has confirmed that Meals On Wheels will provide a hot breakfast for 150 attendees through their providers. The Dryer Wiz and The New Lenox Library have agreed to sponsor the breakfast. Lori is hoping to confirm more sponsors through her contacts. Signage suspended from the ceiling for Blood Pressure Screening, Balance Screening and Vaccinations will be provided by the village. The Planning Team includes Colette, Lori, Diannah, Linda, Jameka, Judy and Laura. The next meeting via Zoom will be August 15, 2024, at 11:00am.
GOOD OF THE ORDER / UPDATES
A Matter of Balance Class #54 is scheduled at the Village Hall in the Community Room on Monday and Wednesday mornings, September 9, 2024 through October 2, 2024. Dan Martin and Gloria Bodnar will coach.
Laura will try to schedule Class #55 in October at the New Lenox VFW anticipating registrants from the OFCCA event September 18th.
NEXT MEETING DATE
The New Lenox Safe Community Coalition meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 via Zoom videoconference.
The next meeting of the Older Adults Falls Prevention Task Group will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 1:30pm, via Zoom videoconference.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at approximately 2:03pm. Dan Martin, Linda Bunting, Gloria Bodnar, Colette Loecke, Darlene Purler and Kathy Beaudry attended the “F & S” refresher which followed.
