Village of New Lenox Safe Communities America, Emergency Preparedness Task Group met May 15.

CALL TO ORDER

Dan Martin called the meeting to order at 10:32am.

IN ATTENDANCE

The Emergency Preparedness Task Group Members in attendance were Dan Martin / Village of New Lenox, Amy Maher / New Lenox Community Park District & New Lenox Chamber of Commerce, Carl Cicero / Metra, Erin Ward / Will County Emergency Management Agency, Amy Kempa / HERO, and Patty Cunningham / ParamontEO – Crest Lighting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Minutes from March 13, 2024 Task Group Meeting, which had been disseminated via email to Task Group Members, were discussed. Amy Maher made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Carl Cicero. After no further discussion, the motion carried, and the minutes were approved.

Severe Weather Spotter Training / Health and Safety Expo / Touch-a-Truck This event was held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Lincoln-Way West High School. The Health and Safety Expo and the Touch-a-Truck were 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The Severe Weather Spotter Training was from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. There was an opening ceremony, which included the posting of colors and singing of the National Anthem. This was followed by opening remarks from Mayor Baldermann. After the Spotter Training there was a raffle, which was a huge success.

“Stop the Bleed”

“Stop the Bleed” was held in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on April 2, 2024. 81 citizens registered to attend, via Eventbrite. 65 attended the event. There are currently 8 instructors for this class.

Home Security / Home Defense / Personal Safety (Joe Malone, Southern Cross, Inc.) Joe Malone did a presentation on Home Security / Home Defense / Personal Safety from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. 95 citizens registered to attend, via Eventbrite. 75 attended the event.

NEW BUSINESS

CERT Class #20 will be held in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The dates are as follows: 9/10, 9/12, 9/17, 9/19, 9/24, 9/26, 10/1 and 10/3. The Final Exercise, Graduation and Luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

“Stop the Bleed”

Stop the Bleed will be held in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on July 30th and October 9th.

“Surviving an Active Shooter Encounter”

This course will be taught by Joe Malone on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall.

September (2024) National Preparedness Month

In addition to offering a 20-Hour Basic CERT Class, what else can we do to support National Preparedness Month? Ideas shared at meeting – Self defense class, Metra-platform training for consumers
