Village of New Lenox Safe Communities America, Domestic Violence Prevention Task Group met Jan. 22.

Here is the agenda provided by the group:

1. Call to Order / Attendance

3. Approval of Minutes from the November 13, 2023 Meeting

4. Old Business

a. “Building Healthy Relationships with Ourselves and Others” – In Support of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

i. This event will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall.

ii. Guardian Angel Community Services will have a resource table(s) at this event for guests to visit when they arrive for the presentation. 

iii. As guests arrive, they will be treated to pizza and beverages.

iv. Breann Fisher, Prevention and Advocacy Coordinator, Guardian Angel Community Services, Sexual Assault Center, will be the presenter. Breann’s presentation will focus on providing teens with tools that they can use to ensure that the relationships they are building are healthy. The presentation will include the showing of a film from the One Love Foundation, which will utilize an example of a relationship to depict different healthy and unhealthy behaviors. Following the film, a discussion will ensue.

v. Following the discussion, attendees are welcome to partake in a self care craft that will provide an opportunity for them to utilize skills to build self-respect and self-esteem. Amirrah Abou-Youssef and Jenny Guiney will lead the craft activity.

5. New Business

a. “Teen Dating Violence: What You Should Know to Support and Help Prevent”

i. In 2023, this event was held on Tuesday, May 2nd in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall.

ii. Would we like to do this event again? If so, shall we choose a format (in-person or virtual) as well as a date and time?

b. “Steering Committee Update (January 3, 2024 Meeting)

a. The next New Lenox Safe Community Coalition meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 10:30am via Zoom Videoconference.
