Village of Peotone Village Board met April 24

Village of Peotone Village Board met April 24.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor March at 6:00 pm.

II. Roll call

Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Bowden, Trustee Hudson, Trustee Jones, Trustee Marevka, Trustee Sluis and Trustee Strba. Also present were Village Administrator, Aimee Ingalls, Police Chief DeMik and Manager of Public Works, Bob Hennke.

III. Public Comments:

Todd Sandberg addressed the hiring of Henry Walters for Building and Zoning Administrator and his feelings about whoever hired should be able to cover building maintenance, inspections and code services without any additional costs to the taxpayers. Elwynne Welsh dropped off a petition against backyard chickens and said he thinks there should be more face to face discussions and not email, he asked if there is a fee schedule made up and asked where the numbers are coming from, he asked Trustee Sluis if she had ever violated the livestock ordinance; she replied she had not, he asked if there are tax assessments done on homes and asked for an inspection of building permits, and that there is a perceptions of the trustees and it is not very good. Kathryn Mahn is still very passionate about getting backyard chickens, they do not smell if you upkeep them. Jolane Walenga spoke in support of changing the local ordinance to allow laying hens and would like them to consider discussion and an update.

IV. Approval of Consent Agenda:

A. Approve the Minutes of the April 10, 2023, Regular Village Board meeting.

V. Staff Committee Reports:

A. Aqua - Angie said there were no new updates, restoration around one of the water towers will be done soon. Earth Day event was successful, promoting only dumping water down storm drains.

B. Public Works - Crosswalks are done on Railroad Street. Street sweeping and brush pick up are being done. Summer projects - working on with Engineer, street resurfacing and sidewalks are moving along.

C. Police Chief - One more resignation submitted, down three officers. Fifteen applications received, will review after application period closes.

D. Engineer - Only punch list items remain for Railroad Street.

E. Treasurer - Mayor gave overview of budget handout items, all in all a good report from last year.

A. Approve New Business Registration, Rebel Ice Cream, 116 Main St.

IML came up with pledge and want all Municipalities to adopt. Mayor read Civility Pledge.

Approved in budget, more comprehensive IT solution, one company to cover all IT needs that will encompass all departments.
