Village of Peotone Village Board met April 10.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor March at 6:00 pm.
II. Roll call
Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Bowden, Trustee Hudson and Trustee Sluis. Trustee Jones, Trustee Marevka and Trustee Strba were absent. Also present were Village Administrator, Aimee Ingalls and Police Chief DeMik.
III. Public Comments:
Kathryn Mahn stated she was coming to make it known that she is passionate about getting backyard hens, she has provided information and is willing to work with the Village. Elwynne Welsh stated he is against chickens, he wants the Village Board to think as a whole and represent the entire Village not just a select few. He expressed concerns about diseases, how loose chickens will be identified, how manure will be disposed of and the cost of the code enforcer. Jolane Walenga stated she is still interested in keeping backyard chickens. She feels even as the minority their right to have chickens is just as important as somebody's right to not have chickens. She went over some sanitary precautions and is willing to negotiate and compromise.
IV. Approval of Consent Agenda:
A. Approve the Minutes of the March 27, 2023, Regular Village Board meeting.
B. Approve Payroll/Accounts Payable

V. Staff Committee Reports:
A. Public Works - Mayor March gave an update: Branch pick up started last week. Trying to get the Railroad Street parking lot wrapped up; the light fixtures are turned on, there is a punch list of some remaining items, parking blocks and crosswalks need to be completed. There was a water main break and Aqua needs to make some repairs.
VI. Mayor's Comments - Received a letter from the Arbor Day Association that the Village received Tree City
USA designation again and also received an upgraded Growth Award. He gave his compliments to the Public Works department for making it happen. Public works has also been planting many trees. He congratulated all the candidates that ran in the election, the results will be certified on April 25th and the new trustees will take office in the beginning of May.

This is part of the Tree City USA designation.
