During its Jan. 18 meeting, the Romeoville Village Board recognized the 2022 Romeoville High School boys’ soccer team that advanced to the 3A state championship game.
Mayor John Noak called up Coach Nick Cirrincione and the team in the meeting to be honored by the board. Noak said he and the entire community were amazed by the season the team put together. He added that feedback about the team has been positive, including how polite the boys are.
“You know, personally, my family, we got out to a few of the playoff games, and the ones that we didn't get to we actually got the broadcast so that [we could watch] and even my son was into it and super excited,” Noak said during the meeting. “On behalf of the entire community, my family, everyone here, the board, how amazing we think you all are and will be. And thank you for what is just a wonderful gift to the community to be able to experience that with you and be a part of it.”
The team was presented a plaque to mark its trip to the state soccer title game where it came up short, falling 1-0 to Naperville Central. In addition to the plaque and recognition, Noak also personally donated to the team for its celebration of the success.
During the presentation, Cirrincione offered his thanks to the board for the honors and to community members attending the meeting.
“We had a great year, and what I like to say, the community got behind us,” he said. “When we were in the state finals and you looked up in the stands, our whole section was filled from bottom to top.”
Cirrincione also offered thanks to parents who fed the team and the coaching staff, and other volunteers who helped make the season a success.
