Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

Many exciting updates are a part of this week’s wrap!

The first is that the Village of Bolingbrook has a new Director or Public Works! With Ken Enda retiring at the end of 2022, we welcomed Andres Orrego to the position. His first day was on Monday, and he was then sworn in at the Board Meeting on Tuesday evening. Congratulations! I look forward to working with him for many years to come!

Andres wasn’t the only one sworn into a position at the board meeting. The Bolingbrook Beautification Commission welcomed two new commissioners: Jill Olson and Maria Velasquez-Gloeckle. Bolingbrook Historic Preservation Commission welcomed new commissioner Edward Bouley.

The Fire and Police Board had two new appointments and a swearing-in for a reappointment. Reymundo Aguayo was sworn in as commissioner, Sandra Baldassano was sworn in as Secretary, and Kevin Johnson was sworn in for his reappointment as commissioner.

Lastly, our own Matt Eastman was sworn in as Director of Community Development. Congratulations to all, and thank you for your dedicated service to the Village of Bolingbrook. If you’d like to watch the meeting in its entirety, you can do so here: https://www.bolingbrook.com/bctvlive

Recently, we welcomed the return of Coffee with the Chiefs. This month, the gathering was held at Town Center in our Board Room. In addition to the open dialogue, a couple presentations were also made. The first was for Ruben Medina, a resident that cared for an elderly neighbor. His actions are a great example of how we should be in our community.

The next was for Ron Oestreich, executive director of the Bolingbrook Park District. He announced his retirement after 26 years of service. Ron will be missed greatly, but I wish him much success on his next endeavor!

The other meetings that took place this week covered a variety of topics.

I began the week by meeting with the Bolingbrook Non-Profit Commission to discuss the success of 2022 as well as plan the first event from this group in 2023.

A few of the meetings throughout the week centered on property, developments, and updates. We met with the president of the Bella Vista Homeowners Association, Patrick Lee, representatives from Healy Bender Patton & Been Architects to discuss a village property on Essington Road, and Express Signs and Lighting Maintenance for the installation of a digital sign at Town Center.

I also had the opportunity to sit down with individuals to touch base and discuss various topics from business to personal development. Some of these meetings included Robert Krug of K-Five Construction, Bolingbrook resident Matt Glowiak, and two young women, the Asenova twins.

It’s been a productive week filled with celebrations and helping others. We closed out the week on that theme of service with the Bolingbrook Fire Department. This week, they visited three different elementary schools in town as part of a project to deliver winter coats to students in need.

I encourage you to think of these service opportunities. Help others. And if you need help, please join me at “Together We Serve” a new event we’re hosting in just 2 weeks at the Bolingbrook Community Center. You can find the details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/574671397435790/

Enjoy your weekend!
