The Village of Park Forest’s Recreation, Parks, & Community Health Department has introduced the Community Health Corner in the main lobby of Village Hall. The initiative is designed to raise health awareness among residents.
Located near the entrance, the display highlights different health causes each month. Residents can access color-coded awareness ribbon pins, pens, and informational flyers that provide facts, prevention tips, and information about local support resources.
“This initiative helps our community stay informed and engaged in their health,” said Recreation Manager and Community Health Coordinator Adina McCollough. “We provide simple, accessible education to encourage residents to learn about health issues affecting them or their loved ones.”
For November, the featured topics include Alzheimer’s disease, premature birth, diabetes, hypertension, pancreatic cancer, and lung cancer. McCollough noted her intention to make Village Hall a central location for wellness in addition to its role as a government building.
“People come for many reasons — to pay bills, attend meetings, or ask questions," McCollough said. "By placing this display up front, we turn everyday visits into opportunities to learn and improve health.”
The topics at the Community Health Corner will change monthly throughout the year in line with national and global health observances. Upcoming subjects may cover heart disease, mental health, and nutrition. According to McCollough, sustained engagement is a key objective.
“We are building awareness, not just sharing information. If a resident takes a flyer, asks a question, or visits a doctor because of this display, we have made a difference," McCollough said.
The Community Health Corner is open during regular hours at Village Hall.
