City of Joliet Public Safety Committee met Sept. 6.

ROLL CALL

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS

This section is for anyone wanting to speak regarding agenda items and are allowed a maximum of 4 minutes. It is not a question and answer period and staff, and the Committee members do not generally respond to public comments. The City Clerk has a copy of the public speaking procedures; please note, speakers who engage in conduct injurious to the harmony of the meeting shall be called to order by the Presiding Officer and may forfeit the opportunity to speak.

PURCHASES

Joliet Police and Fire Departments Radio Purchase in the amount of $5,229,308.68

Deputy Fire Chief Carey gave an overview of this Council Memo.

There was a brief discussion on Joliet and Fire Departments Radio Purchase. ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS

RESOLUTIONS

A Resolution Requesting Authorization to enter into a Regular 2022 Justice Assistance Grant Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Joliet and Will County

Deputy Chief Blackburn gave an overview of this Council Memo.

NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION

Councilwoman Quillman spoke about the new public safety things passed in Springfield. She said we are home rule and would like to explore the possibility of rescinding some of those things in our town.

DC Blackburn spoke about trailer bills and the Public SAFE-T Act.

Councilwoman asked the Police Department to come up with ideas to do something about the SAFE-T Act. The Legal department will help move in the right direction.

A brief discussion was held on the Public SAFE-T Act.

Councilwoman Quillman spoke about citizen awareness; citizens will be notified of what is being done and they will be asked for support as well.
