At the June 22 meeting of the Village of Monee Board of Trustees, Mayor Therese M. Bogs thanked the three individuals who helped an injured police officer.
“For their courage and resolve to not only help an injured police officer, but because they most assuredly would have done the same for any of us, we are forever grateful," Bogs said. "It is you and those like you who continuously restore our faith in humanity. From all of us who represent this village and our entire police department, thank you."
On May 27, an officer lost control of and crashed his squad car into a porch and utility pole. The cruiser rolled on its side, pinning the unconscious officer in the car.
While 911 was being called, three citizens, Vincent Sherrod, Micheal Beard, and Luke White, saw the officer in distress and and ran to check on him. They pried the windshield off to reassure the officer as he regained consciousness. The reassurance and company while help responded was appreciated by the officer, who is recovering.
The village board also thanked another officer from the police department. Officer Peter Farias retired from the force after almost 32 years with the department. He was credited as having been always willing and ready to serve whenever he was needed, along with being well loved by the department and the community.
