Police in Joliet arrested a homeless man after he allegedly spread a "white powdery substance" near the front lobby of the police department building on Oct. 13.
The suspect, Demarkus Bailey, 44, was charged with felony disorderly conduct, a news release said.
"On October 13, 2021, at 7:52 PM, Joliet Police Department employees discovered an unidentified white powdery substance near the front lobby area of the building," the news release said. "The Joliet Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene. The front lobby area of the Joliet Police Department was evacuated and closed off to the public."
The powder was initially treated as a hazardous substance until the Fire Department identified it as a harmless dietary supplement powder.
"Detectives investigating this incident identified Bailey as the suspect after surveillance video depicted Bailey spreading the powder throughout the front lobby and elevator area of the Joliet Police Department," the news release said. "Bailey returned to the Joliet Police Department where he was placed into custody without incident."
There were no injuries during the incident, police said.
