Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Burr Ridge) is concerned about high taxes that add more burden to Illinoisan households and called out for this to cease.
“In a recent WalletHub study, Illinois was found to have the highest effective state and local tax rates in the U.S. with our residents paying nearly 39% more than the national average,” Durkin wrote in a March 10 Facebook post.
The Republican leader posted a chart to his Facebook page showing Illinois ranked 51st among the 50 states and Washington, D.C.
“The tax-and-spend mindset has to stop in this state government,” he said. “We cannot ask for more from Illinois families.”
According to the personal finance platform, Illinois families pay $9,488 on average in state and local taxes, which at 15 percent of their income is the country’s highest, which is a 38.95% difference between Illinois and the national average.
