East Joliet FPD responds to 58 fires in 2018

East Joliet Fire Protection District responded to 169 calls in 2018 - 1.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in East Joliet included 58 fires - 16 structure fires, 13 vehicle fires and 29 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $616,120 in fire loss - or about $10,623 per fire.

The department also received 110 false calls, including two malicious calls and 108 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The East Joliet Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,169,181 in 2017.

The East Joliet FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 12 active employees and eight retired or inactive employees, was $76,678 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,162 for every fire in 2017.
