Mokena FPD responds to 75 fires in 2018

Mokena Fire Protection District responded to 587 calls in 2018 - 5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mokena included 75 fires - 37 structure fires, 23 vehicle fires and 15 other fires.

In all, the department saw $331,371 in fire loss - or about $4,418 per fire.

The department also received 512 false calls, including 186 malicious calls and 326 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Mokena Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $6,579,991 in 2018.

The Mokena FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 34 active employees and six retired or inactive employees, was $845,584 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $12,255 for every fire in 2017.
