Northwest Homer FPD responds to 40 fires in 2018

Northwest Homer Fire Protection District responded to 271 calls in 2018 - 0.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Northwest Homer included 40 fires - 29 structure fires, three vehicle fires and eight other fires.

In all, the department saw $1,164,500 in fire loss - or about $29,113 per fire.

The department also received 231 false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Northwest Homer Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,192,170 in 2018.

The Northwest Homer FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $41,291 in debt as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $688 for every fire in 2017.
