Plainfield FPD responds to 103 fires in 2018

Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to 856 calls in 2018 - 16.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Plainfield included 103 fires - 28 structure fires, 24 vehicle fires and 51 other fires. The fire department also responded to 13 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $893,800 in fire loss - or about $8,678 per fire.

The department also received 740 false calls, including one malicious call and 739 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $17,390,020 in 2017.

The Plainfield FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 56 active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $2,382,174 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,062 for every fire in 2017.
