ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 37: Rep. McDermed Hosting Document Shredding Event and Food Drive

Food

Illinois State House District 37 issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

This year, more than ever State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) is pleased to invite residents to take advantage of a free document shredding event and to give back to the community via a food drive on Saturday, September 19th.

“The best part about being State Representative has been my ability to connect people with services and informative seminars that have been so useful to them. This year we have had to cancel a number of events I planned on providing, which has been especially heartbreaking in my last year in office,” Rep. McDermed explained. “Thankfully, my annual shred truck, which is always a huge hit, is a socially distant event I am thrilled to be able to host. I’m sure many families have done extended spring cleaning during the lockdown period and have quite a lot of documents they need to safely dispose of.”

As with past shred events, it will take place in the parking lot of Rep. McDermed’s office at 11032 W Lincoln Highway. The event will run from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Drivers will bring their vehicles up to the truck where volunteers will be available to unload documents. Drivers are asked not to exit their vehicles. Due to expected volume, only two boxes of shreddable documents will be accepted from each vehicle. No electronics will be accepted for recycling or disposal.

Rep. McDermed continued, “So many of our neighbors have been struggling during this pandemic and the resulting loss of income from the Governor’s shutdown orders, which is why I hosted a food drive earlier this spring. I want to encourage people to continue to give back by bringing non-perishable food and other items to donate when they drive up to the event.”

Rep. McDermed’s office is located next to the Frankfort food pantry which will be the main beneficiary of the drive. The pantry accepts standard foods like non-perishables, canned pasta, canned fruit, granola bars, soups, peanut butter, jelly, and condiments. In addition, they also collect other foods like feminine hygiene products, lotions, toilet paper, and shampoo and conditioner.
