After protests turned to vandalism, Joliet and Crest Hill have both implemented an 8 p.m. curfew.

The Herald-News reported both cities have set a 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Joliet's curfew will be until further notice, while Crest Hill's curfew will be until 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

Joliet Mayor Bob O'Dekirk has declared a state of emergency for the city until further notice, which will be the third one since the pandemic began. This declaration of emergency is in response to rioting and vandalism that resulted from George Floyd's death.

"The emergency is related to civil disturbance, specifically multiple acts of vandalism and violence within the city of Joliet on Sunday, May 31, 2020," a news release from the City of Joliet states.

While the City of Crest Hill didn't issue a state of emergency, it still saw damage from the protesting, the Herald-News reported.

"Crest Hill had minor damage reported last night as extra police were called to support law enforcement efforts," Crest Hill stated. "This decision was made in an attempt to keep all residents and local businesses safe."
