Superintendent, Craig Schoppe, provided an update on COVID-19 School Closure reporting that last Friday, Governor Pritzker announced statewide school closures beginning on March 17 through March 30. Per the Governor's Executive Order 2020-05, all days that a sch will be counted as Act of God Days and do not need to be made up at the end of the school year. All school districts are strongly encouraged to provide instruction to students during these Act of God Days through whatever means possible. Student work completed during the mandated school closure March 17-30 must not count toward student grades or otherwise negatively impact a student's academic standing, as these are Act of God Days and not instructional days. District office has been in constant contact with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Will County Regional Office of Education over the past 5 days to understand the guidance and expectations of the school closings. We are sharing that information with Homer 33C staff and families as quickly as possible. ISBE officials have made it very clear that the school closing window may be extended, so schools and families should be aware of that possibility. Future decisions regarding statewide school closures will be made by Governor Pritzker and in consultation with public health officials. We are in unprecedented times in our history, but we are all working together to continue to support the students of Homer 33C. I am incredibly proud of the efforts of our staff and the work they did in such a short amount of time to get learning activities up on the district website for our students. The learning activities will pro students with a little bit of normalcy and structure to their day during this frightening time. I am extremely thankful for the patience and support of our staff and parents, as we have navigated through all of the questions and concerns of the COVID-19 school closure. I encourage everyone to do everything you can to stay healthy and safe. We will get through this together!
