Third Congressional District candidate Fricilone insists Will County taxpayers running on empty

Gas

Will County Board member Mike Fricilone (R-Homer Glen) is opposed to Illinois’ new gas tax hike in every way imaginable.

“The 2019 state gas tax increased from 19 cents to 38 cents,” Fricilone, running in the 3rd Congressional District against incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Chicago), said in a recent press release. “Will County’s Department of Transportation expects to receive approximately $6.2 million of new gas tax dollars yearly. Also note that the state gas tax is now indexed to the CPI (consumer price index). What does that mean? When the CPI goes up, so does the gas tax.”

According to Fricilone, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has also put a bond program in place aimed at generating more infrastructure revenue over the next several years. But Fricilone argues that the numbers do not add up.

“This ‘new’ county-wide gas tax is expected to generate an additional $12 million yearly, also indexed to CPI, which means it increases every year,” he said. “The residents don't have an endless pot of money to pay more in taxes. When is enough?”
