Illinois State House District 37 issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.
State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena), together with One Light Self Defense, is hosting one final workshop for women and girls this year. It will take place at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mokena on Tuesday, October 8th at 6pm. As always, the free class will help women and girls 12 and up learn avoidance tactics, self-defense misconceptions, offensive techniques, and defensive escapes.
“I highly recommend women and girls come to this workshop, even if they have already done so, as it is full of useful information and techniques,” Rep. McDermed said.
Since taking office, Rep. McDermed has partnered with One Light on numerous occasions, including three other classes earlier this year. One Light has taught well over a hundred workshops throughout the state and trained thousands at these free classes. While the class is free, donations to One Light are appreciated. 100% of donations go to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, or sexual assault. Thousands of dollars of donations from workshops have been donated to Women At Risk International to use towards their emergency and safe house funds.
