Wilmington Community Unit School District 209-U Board of Education met June 6. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wilmington Community Unit School District No. 209-U met in special session on Thursday June 6, 2019 at 6:00 P.M. in the Wilmington High School Board Room. President Cragg called the meeting to order with the following members answering roll call: Anderson, Dziuban, Kunz, Moran, Southall, Stickel and Cragg.


A motion was made by Southall and seconded by Anderson to discuss in closed session and to take action in open session the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees, and Collective negotiating matters between the Board of Education and its employees or their representatives. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Craggaye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dziuban and seconded by Anderson to leave closed session. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Craggaye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Southall and seconded by Stickel to approve the agenda for the Thursday, June 6, 2019 special meeting of the Wilmington Community Unit School District No. 209-U Board of Education as presented. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunzaye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Cragg-aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Southall and seconded by Dziuban to Approve Document 6-1- 19: Multi-Year Support Staff Contract for the 2019-2020 school year through the 2021- 2022 school year, pending final review of formal document by Superintendent and Legal Counsel. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Cragg-aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Stickel and seconded by Southall to approve Mrs. Dennis’s recommendation to reassign Kelly Cavanaugh from a L.J. Steven’s Intermediate 4th teacher to a 3rd grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Anderson-aye, Dziubanaye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Cragg-aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Moran and seconded by Stickel to approve Mrs. Dennis’s recommendation to employ Julie Seiler as a L.J. Steven’s Intermediate School 4th Grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school term at a Bachelors Step 3 in the salary schedule. Employment is pending the compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Craggaye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dziuban and seconded by Southall to approve Mr. Maupin’s recommendation to employ Bret Lucca as a WHS Physical Education Teacher for the 2019-2020 school term at Bachelors Step 3 in the salary schedule. Employment is pending the compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Cragg-aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Stickel and seconded by Southall to approve Mrs. Norman’s recommendation to employ Michael Fisher as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher for the 2019-2020 school term at Bachelors Step 1 in the salary schedule. Employment is pending the compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Craggaye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Southall and seconded by Moran to approve Mr. Maupin’s recommendation to employ Jessica Carey as a Wilmington High School and Wilmington Middle School Choir Teacher for the 2019-2020 school term at Bachelors Step 3 in the salary schedule. Employment is pending the compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickelaye, Cragg-aye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Southall and seconded by Stickel to approve Mr. Maupin’s recommendations for High School Volunteer Coaches during the Summer of 2019:

       Holly Robbins – Volleyball

       Bret Lucca – Boys’ Basketball

       Dan O’Leary – Boys’ Basketball

Anderson-aye, Dziuban-aye, Kunz-aye, Moran-aye, Southall-aye, Stickel-aye, Craggaye. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Anderson and seconded by Dziuban to adjourn until the regular meeting on June 20, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Closed Session will be at 7:00 PM. All aye. Motion carried
