Village of Plainfield Landmarks & District Designation and Public Outreach Subcommittees met May 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the subcommittees:

CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL 

Chairman Bortel called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m.

Roll call was taken: Commissioners Hagen, Rapp, and Chairman Bortel were present. Commissioners Barvian, Derrick, Hendricksen, Lucas, Olsen, and Schmidt were absent.

Also in Attendance: Yuchen Ding, Associate Planner; Jonathan Proulx, Director of Planning

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

Minutes from the Landmark & District Designation and Public Outreach Subcommittees Joint Meeting held on April 4, 2019 were approved as presented.

OLD BUSINESS 

15326 S. Joliet Road Chairman Bortel provided staff with information on a vendor that sells all wood doors and historic pictures of the home. Chairman Bortel asked if the applicant wants to install a transom and side lights. Mr. Ding confirmed. Mr. Ding provided an update of the COA for the fence.

Historic Guidelines Manual 

No Update.

BTD Informational Brochure 

No Update.

2019 Preservation Awards 

Chairman Bortel stated the award nominees are Public Works (Downtown Planters), Lydia Pond (23837 W. Ottawa), and DNA (24210 W. Lockport).

Celebration of Preservation 

Chairman Bortel advised there will be a reception to follow the meeting Chairman Bortel asked staff to confirm the date the HPC will be present to the Village Board.

Baker Project at Dillman and Joliet Road 

No Update.

NEW BUSINESS 

2019 Preservation Awards – Giambotta Pizza Co. 

Chairman Bortel asked the commission if they would like to nominate Giambotta for an award. The commission agreed to the nomination.

14930 S. Illinois St. – Landmark Designation 

Chairman Bortel stated the landmark nomination will be presented at the May 6th Village Board Meeting.

15134 S. Fox River Landmark Nomination 

Chairman Bortel stated there will be a Special Meeting of the HPC on May 13th at 6:00 p.m. to tour 15134 S. Fox River.

Preservation Workshop 

Chairman Bortel suggested to have a workshop for the newest Village Board members.

CLG Annual Report 

Chairman Bortel stated the commission will vote on the report at their next meeting.

DISCUSSION 

Chairman Bortel suggested an ordinance for Demolition by Neglect. Mr. Proulx explained that in extreme cases the Village has taken legal actions against the property owners. Mr. Proulx stated it is something that can be explored.
