Former state school employee Kelly paid in $47K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $509K in retirement

Former state school employee Elizabeth Kelly, who retired in June 2018, saved $47,051 toward a pension over 11 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Kelly would collect as much as $508,841, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes Kelly received $10,695 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Kelly will have already received $56,780 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
