Valley View Community Unit School District 365U issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.
As part Goal 4 and Strategy 7 of the VVSD Strategic Plan, VVSD students are taught how they can make a difference by participating in various charitable activities. The activities range from high school students volunteering at the Chicago Marathon, to middle school students collecting food for needy families in their own school communities, to elementary students donating money to various organizations.
Students at Skoff and Hermansen Elementary Schools participated in several fundraising activities for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The activities at Hermansen concluded with “Jammies for JDRF Day” where students made a contribution and wore their pajamas to school. The activities for JDRF were organized by VVSD Director of Elementary Literacy & Social Studies Dr. Amy Paris. Watch the Video as Dr. Paris shares details on some of the activities and explains why teaching students to participate in community activities is an important part of the overall curriculum in VVSD.
