Fairmont School District 89 students suspended 32 times in a single school year

Fairmont School District 89 reported 32 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 32 students during the year. That equates to 10.3 percent of the 311 students enrolled.

Of the 29 in-school suspensions, 14 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 29 incidents. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. For two incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
