Chicago Fire Cricket issued the following announcement on July 2.
The Chicago Fire Soccer Academy U-14 team took home third place in the 3rd Annual Impact Academy U-14 International Tournament at Centre Nutrilait in Montréal last weekend after a 2-0 win against a local CS Saint-Laurent team on Sunday.In group play, the team tied Houston Dynamo and New England Revolution both 0-0 then defeated Montreal Impact 1-0 with a goal from Wyatt Borso. The Fire Academy then went on to defeat DC United 1-0 with another goal from Borso in the quarterfinal match, advancing to the semifinal against Toronto FC. The Fire lost 1-0, but rallied back to take third place against CS Saint-Laurent with a 2-0 win and goals from Borso and Noeh Hernandez.
After scoring three of four of the team's goals throughout the Tournament, Borso -- a recent Academy signee -- tied two others for top goal-scorer of the tournament. Additionally, Fire goalkeeper Gabriel 'Gaga' Slonina won Goalkeeper of the Tournament after exceptional play in all six matches and allowing only 1 goal.
Head coach Michael Barshai led the Fire Academy 2004 boys to finish the tournament with a 3-1-2 record. The team also showed great sportsmanship on and off the field and were awarded the Tournament Fair Play Award.
