Plainfield FPD responds to 99 fires in 2017

Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to 732 calls in 2017 - 15.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Plainfield included 99 fires - 41 structure fires, 15 vehicle fires and 43 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $8,999,050 in fire loss - or about $90,899 per fire.

The department also received 628 false calls, including five malicious calls and 623 other false calls.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $16,784,643 in 2016.

The Plainfield FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 56 active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $1,004,276 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $10,144 for every fire in 2016.
