Rick Laib will be facing off against Rep. Lawrence Walsh Jr. (D-Elwood) in the 86th District in November's general election.
Laib believes "Illinois should be frugal with power, restrictive with spending, and cautious to not outgrow a limited government," according to his campaign website.
He is also running on reducing taxes and promoting entrepreneurship in the state.
Laib, a Joliet resident, went to Joliet Junior College before attending the University of St. Francis and the University of South Florida. He later obtained a master's in theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield.
Walsh has been in office since 2012 and currently is the chairman of the Intermodal Infrastructure Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations-General Service, Counties & Townships, and Labor & Commerce committees.
