Channahon FPD responds to 29 fires in 2016

Channahon Fire Protection District responded to 118 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Will County Gazette.

The calls in Channahon included 29 fires - 10 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 10 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $320,600 in fire loss - or about $11,055 per fire.

The department also received 89 false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Channahon FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $65,317 positive as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,252 for every fire in 2016.
