Laurie McPhillips is proud of the reputation she’s established with the people of Will County.
“I’ve lived here virtually my whole life, and they know I’m a doer,” McPhillips, who now lives in Plainfield, told the Will County Gazette of her more than 25 years in county government. “I’ve also worked on several charities in the area, and my husband and I have worked in real estate. I look at it all as public service, just serving my community, and my familiarity with things helps me to get things done.”
The 50-year-old McPhillips thinks she has even more to give, recently announcing plans to run to replace the retiring Nancy Schultz Voots as county clerk in 2018. She joins Mark Kay Campbell on the Republican ballot, while Democratic County Board member Lauren Staley-Ferry has also announced plans to run.

“I want to continue the great job of keeping voters informed about state laws and how they can vote that Nancy has always done,” McPhillips said. “I want to keep the same level of transparency about everything she always has.”
McPhillips served four years as the county’s recorder of deeds and was on the county board for another two, which she said are experiences that have more than prepared her to make a seamless transition to clerk.
“While recorder, I implemented the first online record search for campaigns,” she said. “I think it’s important that I let people know about my management background and how my more than 20 years of working with the county clerk’s office will help keep the office moving.”
Most of all, McPhillips thinks it’s important that voters see her passion for the office she is seeking and the kind of work that is required to run it efficiently.
“It’s easy for me to care so much because it’s what I’ve always done,” she said. “I’m familiar with it all, and I have the wherewithal to work with anyone to get the job done.”
