You could say Cam Knudson was at cross purposes this year.
A key member of the University of St. Francis' (USF) men’s cross country team, Knudson was also honored recently for his efforts in the classroom.
Knudson, a junior from Channahon, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American second team. Any athlete who earns the honor must be a starter or key member of a team and maintain a minimum 3.30 grade point average.
During the year, Knudson helped USF win titles in men’s cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. He was named to two NAIA All-American teams.
One of the highlights of the year for the Saints came in the 3,000-meter run at the NAIA indoor track and field championships, when Knudson finished second and set a school record with a time of 8 minutes and 16 seconds.
On the academic side, Knudson holds a 3.59 GPA and is set to graduate in December with a degree in marketing.
