Will County and DuPage Democratic party leaders are working to fill the 85th District House seat that was vacated recently by Rep. Emily McAsey (D-Lockport), according to the Chicago Tribune.
McAsey said in her resignation letter that it had been an honor to serve Illinoisans, but she was following her husband as he relocated for work. The seat must be filled by July -- within 30 days of her resignation -- by a Democrat who has lived in the district for at least two years.
As District 85 includes portions of Will and DuPage counties, the Democratic parties for both areas will cooperate in finding a replacement. Will County Democratic Party Chairman Scott Pyles told the Tribune that they are working to form a committee, which will then seek resumes and conduct interviews for candidates.

"Emily has done a good job,” Pyles told the Tribune. “She is well-known because she met with her constituents a lot. That's important."
McAsey, who had served in the House since 2008 and did not face challengers in the past few elections, also earned praise from several of her colleagues in the House and from the Will County board.
