Hultgren offers multifaceted internship posts

Capitol hill

College students and recent graduates interested in political communications, speech writing and research can apply for internships with Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL).

A recent Hultgren intern did all of those things, plus gave some tours of the U.S. Capitol.

“Attending House and Senate hearings, learning about the history of the nation’s capital and staffing a meeting with the Hong Kong commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs were just a few of the unforgettable moments I enjoyed in the office,” the former intern said. “I had the privilege to see the legislative process from the inside and met fascinating people who I would not have otherwise been fortunate enough to meet; the entire experience has been invaluable.”

While the summer 2017 internships are unpaid, participants will gain experience and possibly academic credits. The time commitment tentatively spans May through August, but the job can be coordinated to accommodate class schedules or other commitments.

Tasks will range from constituent relations to policy and outreach work. Although duties are expected to be mainly administrative, interns might also get a chance to assist Hultgren at meetings.

Preference will be given to residents of the 14th Congressional District, according to Hultgren’s office, but any qualified individual may apply.

Interested parties are asked to mail a resume, cover letter and writing sample to IL14.interncoordinator@mail. house.gov and specify which of three locations they prefer: Washington, Campton Hills or an office planned for the McHenry area.
