A recent identity theft scam can be avoided simply by not saying the word "yes."
The Village of Homer Glen reports that the Better Business Bureau is telling consumers to beware of unknown callers, regularly check your bank account and report suspicious calls to stay clear of the scam.
The scheme involves telemarketers hawking vacations and cruises who immediately ask the person answering the phone a simple question, such as "Can you hear me?" If that person answers "yes," there is the chance his reply will be recorded and reused as if he has given his consent to making purchases.
