With several jurisdictions reporting record-breaking attendance, Will County townships -- including DuPage, Jackson and Green Garden -- have reported the results of recent countywide Republican caucuses.
More than quadrupling its participation from four years ago, DuPage Township recorded 250 residents at its Republican Caucus.
“All those that attended enjoyed pizza and great esprit de corps,” officials said as they revealed overwhelming public support for a slate of incumbents in DuPage: Bill Mayer as supervisor, Trish Stach as clerk and Jean Kelly as assessor, plus three trustees — Alyssia Benford, Ken Burgess and Maripat Oliver.
Newcomer Dennis Raga was also nominated for trusteeship, and Gary Hoffman was designated for the position of collector. All DuPage candidates were endorsed unanimously.
In Jackson Township, Republican chairman Dick Tyler met with Ben Bierly, the only person who attended, who will run for trustee on April's ballot after being chosen unanimously.
Green Garden Township attracted 76 voters to its caucus, with Republican Chairman Cherie Newton reporting the top four trustee vote winners to be Donald Hillriegel (66 votes), William Wagner (63), Russell Standish (60), and Newton herself (59). Gary Mueller, the outgoing supervisor, garnered 28 votes.
Bob Massat will remain roads commissioner, and Sue Coffey will continue as clerk for Green Garden Township, with both candidates unopposed. For the role of supervisor, Jim Nolan unseated incumbent Gary Mueller with more than double the latter’s votes.
With Green Garden Township Assessor Joanne Bettenhausen retiring, the position reportedly will be shared with another township.
New Lenox Township reported two candidates: Sue Smith for clerk and Keifer Keigher for collector. Finally, Channahon Township issued a spelling correction for trustee Bill Bankes.
