The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that the reconstructed ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7) will open on Saturday, October 4, weather permitting. This is part of the ongoing reconstruction of I-80 from Ridge Road in Minooka to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox.
Lane closures on westbound I-80 between Center Street and Larkin Avenue will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 3. At least one westbound lane will remain open during this time. The lanes that are closed overnight and the new ramp to Larkin Avenue are expected to reopen by 10 a.m. Saturday.
According to IDOT, "The new Larkin Avenue exit ramp was reconfigured to provide access to both northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue, controlled by a new traffic signal at the top of the ramp. Previously there were separate exit ramps for northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue."
IDOT advises drivers that as work continues on I-80, they should expect ongoing lane shifts, overnight closures, and possible delays. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow posted speed limits, pay attention to flaggers and signage in work zones, and watch for workers and equipment.
More information about the project is available at I80will.org, which provides updates, photos, and a way for residents to contact the project team with questions or comments. Current traffic conditions can be found at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
