The City of Crest Hill has announced that its annual crack sealing program will take place from October 2 to October 10, depending on weather conditions. Patriot Pavement has been contracted to perform the work this year.

According to city officials, the process is expected to have minimal impact on residents and typically takes less than a few hours per location. The procedure involves grinding out existing cracks with a routing tool, blowing out debris and dust—most of which will be collected by the contractor—and filling the cracks with a hot mixture that sets in five to ten minutes. Barriers will be used temporarily to prevent traffic from disturbing the material until it cures and dries. Afterward, all traffic controls will be removed and roads reopened.

A city spokesperson explained that "the idea behind crack sealing is to prevent or minimize the amount of water that penetrates the road which will cause long term damage of the pavement." The city also plans to sweep streets a few weeks after completion if necessary.

Residents seeking more information are encouraged to contact Patriot Pavement at 847-813-9034 or reach out to the City’s Engineering office at 815-741-5122.
