The City of Joliet has announced the return of its Residential Snow Removal Program for the 2025-2026 winter season. The program is designed to assist residents who are either 62 years of age or older or have a physical disability, providing snow removal services from paved driveways and service sidewalks.

According to the city, this initiative aims to help eligible residents maintain access to essential needs during winter, such as groceries and medical appointments. Funding for the program comes from Community Development Block Grants.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 62 years old or physically disabled and provide photo identification along with proof of residency within Joliet. The program is limited to single-family homes, offering one driveway and one sidewalk service per household. Each eligible household can receive up to five snow removals per season if snowfall reaches three inches or more. Contractors will start clearing after snowfall ends and have up to 24 hours to complete each property. Services are provided citywide without individual scheduling options.

Applications open on October 1, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., and will close once funding limits are reached. Applications will be reviewed in the order received, with participation capped by available funds and service costs.

Residents are encouraged to apply online at https://www.joliet.gov/government/departments/community-development/neighborhood-services-division/senior-snow-program. Those unable to apply online or needing assistance can contact Jacqueline Lozada at (815) 724-4096 or jlozada@joliet.gov for an appointment.

"The Senior/Disabled Snow Removal Program is designed to ensure accessibility for eligible residents by providing snow removal from a paved driveway and service sidewalk. This service helps residents safely leave their homes for essential needs such as groceries, medical appointments, or other necessities during the winter months. The program is made possible through Community Development Block Grant funding," according to the City of Joliet's announcement.
