Crews in Park Forest are making progress on a range of street and utility projects as the construction season reaches its peak, according to village officials.

Assistant Public Works Director Nick Christie said paving crews remain on schedule in several neighborhoods. The final asphalt surface is expected to be installed on New Salem, Monitor, Gentry, and Herndon Streets by Thursday. Sod restoration for these areas is planned for October.

Work continues on Tomahawk, Nauvoo, Seneca, and Somonauk Streets. The first layer of asphalt was placed on Tuesday. Over the next three weeks, crews will adjust sewer structures before applying the final roadway surface. Sod restoration is also set for October.

On Marquette and Onarga Streets, concrete replacement will move to the opposite side of the road this week. The first layer of asphalt is anticipated in about three weeks. After that, workers will adjust sewer structures and lay down the final asphalt layer.

The Village is also working on underground infrastructure improvements. Replacement of the Forest Brook Lift Station began this week and should continue through October. This work will bring construction traffic through the Forest Brook townhome neighborhood.

Sanitary sewer lining in the Central Basin will begin in October, stretching from Area J to Garden House. Christie stated that residents should expect limited disruptions aside from construction traffic.

Other ongoing efforts include a water main replacement at the Fire Training Site on Orchard Drive that started September 8 and utility work tied to reconstruction of Forest Boulevard scheduled for later this fall. Both projects are expected to have minimal impact on nearby homes.

Christie added that final restoration work—including sod replacement across Park Forest—is scheduled for October as these projects wrap up.
