Sally Carey | Vandenberg Funeral Home - Mokena

Sally Carey, aged 74, of Mokena, Illinois, peacefully passed away on August 20, 2025. Born on January 6, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Georgina Haddock, Sally was a graduate of Rich Central High School in 1969. She met her husband, Alan Carey, at Dog 'n Suds in Homewood, Illinois, soon after, and they married in 1970. Together, they raised their three children, Sally Christine, Jason Alan, and Lynda Dawn, in Mokena.

Devoting her life to her family, Sally was a dedicated stay-at-home mom and doting grandmother, known for her creativity, generosity, and special touches that made life memorable for her loved ones. Whether baking muffins weekly, preparing her renowned soups, or crafting heartfelt homemade gifts, Sally's love and thoughtfulness were ever-present.

Photography was one of Sally's greatest passions, bringing her immense joy. She captured treasured moments at her grandchildren's games, preserving action shots that became cherished memories. Sally also had a love for nature photography and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, documenting her adventures with her camera.

Survived by her husband, Alan Carey; children Jason (Jenn) Carey and Lynda (Michael) Murphy; son-in-law Michael Schicker; beloved grandchildren Michael, Owen, Madison, Matthew, Wyatt, and Lorelei; brother John Haddock; and other family members and friends.

Sally was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Schicker; parents, John and Georgina Haddock; and sister, Georgina Sidwell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Mokena, Illinois, followed by a service celebrating Sally's life at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
