Gary was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Frances Giovengo, sister-in-law Mary-Alice Giovengo, niece Allison, nephew Jerry Giovengo, best friend Bill Genens, and his special dog Elizabeth. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Donna, their children: Connie (Cirilo) Sanchez, Tammy (Timothy) Jensen, Gary (Gwen) Giovengo, his twin brother Jerry, special niece Rebecca (John) Dziuban, special nephew David Giovengo, his grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In 1968, Gary married the love of his life, Donna, and served in the military in Vietnam with bravery and dedication. He received notable honors, including The Bronze Star Medal with V Device for heroism in ground combat and The Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
After retiring as an auto mechanic, Gary enjoyed pursuits like fishing, drag racing, car shows, western shows, and rodeos. He shared special bonds over fishing with his brother Jerry and nephews Little Jerry and David, and worked on cars with his son Little Gary and grandsons Anthony, Matthew, Ryan, and Kyle.
A Visitation will be held at Hickey Memorial Chapels in New Lenox, IL, from 9am-11am, with prayers and readings to follow. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
The memory of Gary Francis Giovengo will forever be cherished, and the love and legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
