City of Lockport City Council met July 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

REGULAR MEETING of the City Council of the City of Lockport, Illinois was held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in the Board Room, 3rd Floor, of the Central Square Building, 222 E. Ninth Street, Lockport, Illinois. Mayor, Steve Streit called the Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

INVOCATION: Pastor Ernest Jones, Christ Vision Community Church

LIAISON REPORT

1. McDonald – Finance

a. Construction will begin August 1

b. New hire – laborer at Waste Water Treatment Plant

2. Gillogly – Police Liaison

a. On Monday, July 14 Chris Neyhard was sworn in as Investigations Commander. Chris has been with the police department for 20 years and has served on the Weapons of Mass Destruction SWAT team, Joliet SWAT team, Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force as division commander, and lead Lockport detective since 2021.

b. On Saturday, August 2, 11 am -2 pm the police department will be holding their annual Community Celebration. Officers will be grilling for the public, there will be vendors, games for children along with music, touch a truck and other activities.

3. King – special events

a. Cruising into Lockport – 4-8 pm Monday nights through August 25

i. July 21 - GM Car Night, live music by Crooked Fences

ii. July 28 – Ford/Lincoln Night, live music by 4Cast

iii. August 4 – Camaro Night, live music by Smoke & Mirrors

b. Fridays in the Park – August 1, 6-9 pm, music by Johnny Lyons & the Price, playing oldies; fundraiser for TLC Animal Shelter

c. Movies Illuminate – August 8, viewed on Norton Building, music by School of Rock

d. Movies Illuminate – Friday, July 18, Wonder Woman

e. Fire Fest – August 9, downtown at State and 10th Street

4. Bergbower

a. Compost Bin – available for Community

b. Bloom event – July 29, 6:30

5. Bartelsen – Beautification

a. Deadline July 14 for nominations – winners will be announced August 6

1. City Administrator, Ben Benson, reminded Council that all City Council meetings will be held in the Township Building, off of Gougar, starting with the August 6 meeting, thru November. This is due to the HVAC work that is being done on the City Hall building.
