Severe storms have caused disruptions to non-emergency communication and alarm signal systems in several south suburban communities, according to the SouthCom Emergency Dispatch Center. Despite these issues, officials confirm that all 911 calls remain fully operational and are being routed through SouthCom’s backup center as usual.

The affected areas include Matteson, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, and Richton Park. While emergency calls continue without interruption, non-emergency phone lines and medical or fire alarm signals are not currently being rerouted. Residents are advised to call 911 only for emergencies.

For non-urgent matters, residents should contact their local police departments directly. In Park Forest, the non-emergency number is 708-748-4700.

“There is no risk to public safety,” SouthCom officials stated. “If you have an emergency, call 911 without hesitation.”

Crews are working to restore full communications services. The next update on the situation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14.
