Construction work on the Chicago Street Corridor in Joliet continued through the week of August 4, with several visible changes for pedestrians and motorists. According to city officials, construction fencing has been removed from sidewalks throughout most of the area, except in front of the library. All four shade structures in the square have been completed, and electrical primary ducts have been installed to Ottawa Street.
For the week of August 11, masons are scheduled to continue stone placement work in the city square. Electrical crews will keep working on installing light foundations and controllers within the square. Electricians are also continuing installation of city fiber optic conduits along Washington Street, which will keep parking restricted in that area.
Work at the entrance to the Ottawa Street Parking Garage is expected as well. City officials note that concrete placements will require a closure at this location, with advance notice to be provided once scheduling is confirmed.
The city reports that sidewalk fencing has now been removed where streetscape improvements are nearly finished. The new shade structures can now be seen in their final form. Masonry work has started on the gathering area located on the north side of the square.
