Pezza Landscaping will apply a post emergent herbicide to lawns in the 1600 and 1700 blocks of Oakland Ave. from Monday, August 11, 2025, through Friday, August 15, 2025. The application is intended to address weed activity that has developed following recent restoration work linked to Nicor’s operations in the area.
The company also plans to return during the first or second week of September 2025 to rework affected areas with grass seed and blanket.
Residents are advised on how to care for new grass seed applied in September. They should keep the soil surface moist by watering daily until all seeds have germinated, which typically takes between seven and fourteen days. Regular watering should continue until the grass reaches four inches tall; after this point, less frequent but deeper watering is recommended. When mowing new grass, residents are instructed not to set mower blades lower than two and a half inches.
Questions regarding these activities can be directed to Curtis Myers, Coordinator-Landscape & Paving at Nicor Construction Restoration Southern Region.
