John A. Synowiec, 87, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, following a long illness. A Chicago native, he attended St. Joseph High School in the Back of the Yards neighborhood before pursuing his passion for mathematics. John obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and dedicated over 40 years of his life to teaching as a professor at Indiana University Northwest. In addition to his academic achievements, John was an avid baseball fan, particularly passionate about the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking walks, reading, and most of all, treasured moments with his family.

John is preceded in death by his parents, George and Wanda Synowiec, and his siblings, Ed Synowiec and Elaine Synowiec. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Synowiec; his sons, Paul, Michael, and George Synowiec; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Synowiec; his nephew, John Joe, and his children, Jon and Joey; his niece, Rosie (Artis) Analitis, and their children, Joshua, Alexis, and Alyssa; as well as many beloved cousins in Poland.

A memorial visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at O'Neil Funeral Home, 1105 E. 9th St., Lockport, IL.
