He was born on November 2, 1947, in Joliet, Illinois, to parents Robert and Helen (Olson) Gill. William, known as Bill, was a dedicated individual who touched the lives of many through his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and various interests.
Growing up in Wilmington, Bill excelled in football and baseball at Wilmington High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. Following his graduation, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era before marrying his loving wife, Mary Ann Zilske, on August 2, 1969, at Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. Their 55 years of marriage were filled with love, companionship, and shared experiences.
Throughout his career, Bill's work ethic and dedication were evident as he served in different roles from the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant to Commonwealth Edison, displaying integrity and forging lasting friendships. Even in retirement, Bill remained active and engaged, working with various organizations and supporting local sports teams passionately.
An avid fan of racing, Bill enjoyed attending different races, from local events to national ones, finding joy in the excitement and camaraderie of the sport. His dedication to family activities and his grandchildren's events showed his love and pride in their accomplishments on and off the field.
Remembered for his warmth, generosity, and love for his family, Bill's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the impact he made will be cherished forever, offering solace in the knowledge that he is reunited with his beloved Mary Ann.
A memorial visitation will take place at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City on August 4, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 p.m., conducted by Ken P. Miller. Bill's final resting place will be Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, where he will receive full military honors alongside his wife.
