Legislation aimed at reforming pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) in Illinois has been signed into law. Supported by Senator John Curran, House Bill 1697 seeks to eliminate spread pricing, stop PBMs from directing patients to preferred pharmacies, and ensure rebates are returned to patients and plan sponsors. The Illinois Pharmacists Association notes that many counties are now pharmacy deserts due to PBM practices.

In another development, the Illinois Secretary of State’s office announced nearly $18 million in Public Library Per Capita Grants distributed to 639 public libraries statewide. These grants assist libraries with resources such as books, internet access, staff support, and more. Libraries in the 41st District receiving funds include Indian Prairie Public Library District and Downers Grove Public Library.

Applications for the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program are now open until September 30, 2025. This state-funded program offers financial aid for land acquisition or development projects related to parks and recreation. Local government organizations eligible for OSLAD funding must be pre-qualified through the State of Illinois Grantee Portal.

Additionally, a Back-to-School Drive is underway in collaboration with the Village of Woodridge. Donations of new or gently used backpacks and school supplies will be accepted until August 15th at Senator Curran’s district office or the Village of Woodridge.
