The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced overnight lane closures on Interstate 80 and Houbolt Road for two consecutive nights. These closures are part of ongoing reconstruction efforts on I-80, stretching from Ridge Road in Minooka to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox. The closures will facilitate the safe installation of steel beams on the I-80 bridge over Houbolt Road.
Starting at 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, I-80 will be reduced to one lane in both directions near Houbolt Road. Concurrently, Houbolt Road will also be reduced to one lane in both directions at I-80, with the ramps from I-80 to Houbolt Road closed as well. Full traffic stops lasting no longer than 15 minutes will occur on Houbolt Road starting at 11 p.m. All lanes and ramps temporarily closed overnight are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. each morning, with work anticipated to conclude by Wednesday, July 16.
These plans may change due to various factors such as weather conditions, and any updates will be communicated to the public accordingly.
As reconstruction continues, drivers should anticipate lane shifts, overnight closures, significant delays, and allow extra travel time through this area. IDOT advises drivers to remain attentive to flaggers and signs within work zones, adhere to posted speed limits, and stay alert for workers and equipment.
